The French Colony of Port Royal

Port Royal was the first permanent colony of the French Empire. They settled there to expand the fur trade, develop agriculture, and search for valuable resources. It is located near the present town of Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. It was founded by Samuel de Champlain who also founded Quebec in the year of 1608. That was the first colony of France in America, however the French had many more colonies after that.
